Santa Cruz County Horsemen‘s Association works closely with Equine Evacuation in disasters to provides assistance to horses and their owners.

Please always contact any group in charge of evacuations prior to showing up with your trailer if you are not part of their organization. Due to liability issues, only authorized rescuers can be utilized in many instances.

The mission of the San Mateo County, Coastside Large Animal Evacuation Unit (CLAEvac) is to provide qualified large animal handlers and horse trailers in emergency situations, to evacuate large animals in any degree disaster, or other emergency incident, when activated by the Peninsula Humane Society and/or San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services. “CLAEvac” is an all volunteer group.
The San Benito Sheriffs Department has an all volunteer Equine Evacuation and Assistance Unit that can be dispatched to help assist livestock owners to evacuate animals. This unit is a trained group of community members that will bring their own trucks and trailers in to assist with the evacuations.

The Santa Clara County Large Animal Evacuation Team is a volunteer resource of the Office of Emergency Services and available upon request by first responders responsible for emergency incidents. The program is managed with the cooperation of the volunteer Program Manager.
